Role and platform

Senior Java Developer in Nomura’s Rates Intraday Risk development team, working on the Onyx Risk platform.

Onyx Risk supports global Flow Rates trading desks with intraday risk and P&L views; work includes evolving trader functionality and modernizing the platform.

The global team is co-located with major trading centres in Tokyo, London, and New York.

Location and work arrangement

  • The role is based in London and described as hybrid.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze business requirements with Flow Rates trading desks and quants and provide solutions for traders.
  • Develop and maintain server-side processes and APIs for intraday risk and P&L.
  • Contribute to strategic platform re-architecture and modernization from design through implementation and rollout.

Mandatory qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Experienced Java developer with good knowledge of Java frameworks, including Spring.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle stages, version control, unit testing, and build tools including JUnit, Maven, Jenkins, and Git.
  • Experience developing front-office tools and familiarity with financial products and market risk concepts; interest rate products are preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and strong personal initiative.

Preferred skills

  • Python, Docker, Kubernetes, and/or AWS experience would be beneficial.
  • Exposure to and interest in AI coding tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot would be beneficial.
