Role overview
Hands-on, supervisory role in a small team responsible for IT infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers, backup and disaster recovery, networking, and cloud services.
The role supports infrastructure services and processes to meet agreed service levels and provides technical expertise to IT projects.
The organization supports approximately 7,000 IT users across approximately 900 locations.
Infrastructure and service delivery
- Influence infrastructure design, contribute to development and configuration, and provide operational support.
- Install, configure, and test infrastructure components; document and version-control components and processes.
- Investigate technologies, provide project operational-readiness assurance, and support smooth service transitions.
- Contribute to business continuity planning and implement plans, including backup and recovery procedures.
- Own issues through resolution or secure a suitable knowledgeable owner; prioritize requests appropriately.
- Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships and supplier service performance.
- Protect WAN/LAN integrity, security, and availability, and implement and support ITIL processes.
Experience and skills
- Demonstrable experience managing, designing, implementing, supporting, developing, and improving complex IT operations environments in a multi-site organization.
- Strong expertise in physical and virtual servers, backup and disaster recovery, networking, and cloud services.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain complex matters to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, time management, prioritization, and ability to respond to tight deadlines.
- Critical-thinking and solution-focused approach.
Team structure and accountability
Reports to the IT Operations Manager and sits within the infrastructure operations structure beneath the IT Operations Technical Lead.
Works with IT leaders, service users, suppliers, out-tasked providers, contractors, consultants, and other IT department units.
The role has no budgetary responsibilities.
