About The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Senior Governance Officer to join our Governance and Council Support team.
Reporting to the Service Lead Governance and Council Support, and leading a small team of high-performing individuals, you will coordinate the end-to-end Council and Committee meeting process and the support provided to Elected Members, oversee and implement governance and compliance requirements, and play a key role in the planning and delivery of local government elections.
About You
- We are seeking a motivated and experienced governance professional with strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- You will bring a sound understanding of local government governance practices and legislation, along with the ability to manage competing priorities, provide specialist governance advice, and build productive relationships across the organisation to support effective decision-making and uphold best-practice governance standards.
- Besides demonstrated experience in a local government governance role, you’ll need to have:
- Sound knowledge of the Local Government Act 1995 and associated Regulations, as well as Council meeting procedure.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Proven ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement, with a proactive and solutions-focused approach
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse teams and stakeholders, fostering trust and collaboration to achieve positive governance outcomes
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise and high-quality reports
- The ability to lead, coach and develop a small team, promoting a positive and high-performing work environment.

Salary And Benefits
Salary range from Level 6-7 Step 1 - Step 4($104,647.66 - $122,437.23)of theCity of Cockburn Industrial Agreement 2025, based on qualifications and experience.
