Position overview
Join Autodesk's Personalized Experiences Team, which brings AI, machine learning, and personalization into products across the Autodesk ecosystem.
Build AI-powered experiences, including the next-generation Autodesk Assistant, and the applications and services behind them, primarily using TypeScript, Electron, and Python.
Work with software engineers, applied scientists, and product teams to build reliable, extensible solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and build AI-powered personalization features, including the next-generation Autodesk Assistant experience.
- Develop desktop applications, APIs, and supporting services, and build modular systems for evolving product capabilities.
- Explore integrations for LLMs and intelligent agents; design contracts for plugins, manifests, registries, SDKs, APIs, and internal interfaces where appropriate.
- Protect dependency direction, data ownership, contracts, and package boundaries; identify architectural drift, cycles, leaky abstractions, and coupling risks.
- Write technical proposals, architecture notes, invariants, and decision records before meaningful changes.
- Improve developer tools, workflows, scaffolding, lint rules, tests, ratchets, and CI checks.
- Keep code, documentation, and project layout predictable for teammates and AI coding agents.
Minimum qualifications
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with AWS or similar cloud technology and 5+ years building and maintaining large, long-lived software applications.
- Strong TypeScript skills and software engineering fundamentals; experience with complex applications, APIs, or distributed systems.
- Experience with Electron or comparable desktop application architecture and Python, especially in a larger application or service layer.
- Strong software design fundamentals across separation of concerns, dependency management, API and contract design, versioning, and incremental evolution.
- Sound engineering judgment, problem-solving skills, and appreciation for clean, maintainable code.
- Comfort writing tests and using automation to enforce architectural conventions.
- Strong written communication for proposals, architecture decision records, design notes, and developer-facing documentation.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with AI-powered applications, LLMs, RAG, AI agents, recommendation systems, or personalization systems.
- Experience with LangGraph, LangChain, or comparable agent orchestration frameworks.
- Experience building SDKs, plugin systems, extension registries, or marketplace-like systems.
- Experience with Electron main/renderer boundaries, IPC, preload scripts, context isolation, packaging, and cross-platform desktop concerns.
- Experience designing local service boundaries between TypeScript/Electron and Python.
- Experience with cloud services, APIs, or distributed systems; internal tooling, code generators, lint rules, dependency checks, or architectural CI gates.
- Experience maintaining public or semi-public APIs over multiple versions or using AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
Ideal candidate
Sees system structure before coding and identifies appropriate feature boundaries and change locations.
Uses judgment to protect contracts, invariants, ownership, and documented intent over time.
Has experience living with design decisions in large, long-lived systems and understands coupling, ownership, and architectural drift costs.
Values focused changes, explicit contracts, clear documentation, clean code, and codebases that teammates and AI agents can navigate safely.
Works pragmatically and collaboratively, follows existing patterns where useful, identifies technical debt, and stays curious about AI and unfamiliar technologies.
Salary transparency
- For Canada-based roles, the expected starting base salary is CAD 123,000 to CAD 180,400 per year; offers depend on experience and geographic location and may exceed the range.
- The compensation package may also include annual cash bonuses, sales commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and benefits.
Onboarding
- The role may require in-person onboarding and/or in-person identity verification.
