Role overview

Design review responsibilities

• Review fire alarm and detection system design submissions at different design stages and during construction.
• Review drawings, specifications, design reports, calculations, equipment schedules, models, material submittals, and related technical documents.
• Review addressable and automatic fire detection, including smoke, heat, flame, aspirating smoke, and beam detection systems.
• Review manual alarm and notification systems, emergency voice/alarm communications, fire alarm controls and annunciation, and firefighter communications where applicable.
• Verify detector types, spacing, coverage, zoning, and device locations against applicable code requirements.
• Review fire alarm loop configurations, system architecture, circuit arrangements, and equipment selection.
• Review power supply, standby power, battery calculations, audibility, and visual notification requirements.
• Review cause-and-effect matrices, input/output schedules, and sequences of operation.
• Verify interfaces with relevant fire and life safety systems, including fire protection, firefighting, smoke control, and alternative fire suppression systems.
• Verify designs and supporting documentation against applicable codes, standards, and Saudi Civil Defence requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in fire alarm and detection system design, engineering, or technical design review.
• At least 5–7 years of relevant experience in Saudi Arabia; authority or Civil Defence submissions and approvals are preferred.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA 72 and other applicable fire alarm and life safety requirements.
• Relevant NFPA certification, such as CFPS, CFI-II, or CFPE.
• Demonstrated technical review experience for fire alarm and detection systems in complex buildings and developments.
• Familiarity with local Civil Defence requirements and authority approval processes.
