Role overview

Supports Sun Life Canada's Operations Expense Management function with first-line support for business partners and monthly and quarterly expense consolidation, analytics, and reporting.

The Senior Financial Analyst contributes to financial planning and analysis, cost-driver insights, and operational expense optimization.

The Finance function is transforming from reporting and planning toward serving as a trusted financial advisor to the business.

Consolidation and annual planning

  • Coordinate monthly forecasts and annual and strategic planning cycles for Operations Expense Management consolidation.
  • Consolidate business-unit submissions, validate completeness and accuracy, and investigate material variances, risks, and opportunities.
  • Coordinate planning timelines, assumptions, templates, and inputs with Finance partners.
  • Prepare consolidated expense outlooks, roll-forwards, and management reporting that communicate key drivers and changes.
  • Maintain consolidation models, planning files, and process documentation; identify improvements to controls, efficiency, and data quality.

Reporting and analysis

  • Build and improve financial models and processes supporting monthly and quarterly reporting.
  • Analyze expense trends to drive management action and operating-expense optimization.
  • Use data-driven models to report financial and non-financial outcomes with commentary and insights.

Planning and transformation

  • Support expense budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning, and annual planning processes.
  • Develop expense roll-forwards from one planning cycle to the next.
  • Recognize and implement continuous improvements and document models and processes for repeatable, sustainable work.

Business partnership

  • Build strong partnerships with business leaders and become a trusted financial advisor.
  • Lead or support ad hoc financial analysis and consulting, including expense studies and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Understand and explain common charges and Sun Life's expense management process to business partners.

Qualifications

  • Financial designation required; CPA or MBA is strongly preferred, with commensurate experience.
  • At least 5 years of financial planning, reporting, and analysis experience; financial services experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of data management tools such as Tableau or Python.
  • Financial modeling experience; expense management experience is ideal.
  • Experience preparing executive-level presentations and content.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, collaboration, and relationship-management skills.
  • Able to manage competing priorities, think critically, take ownership, and work through ambiguity and change.
