About This Role

Position: Senior Underwriter - Engineering

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, evaluate, and underwrite new business submissions, renewals, extensions, and mid-term adjustments for engineering risks
• Perform detailed risk evaluations, including engineering assessments, exposure analysis, loss history review, and catastrophe modelling considerations
• Determine appropriate pricing, terms, conditions, limits, deductibles, and endorsements to ensure profitable and balanced risk acceptance
• Exercise delegated underwriting authority for technically complex and high-value engineering accounts, escalating exceptional cases as required
• Manage and monitor an assigned engineering portfolio to achieve profitability, growth, and diversification targets
• Analyze portfolio performance, loss ratios, and underwriting metrics, and recommend corrective actions where required
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, aggregators, and internal stakeholders
• Negotiate terms, pricing, facultative reinsurance placements, and participation on complex multi-layer programs
• Collaborate with the Reinsurance Department to support facultative and treaty placements
• Ensure compliance with internal underwriting guidelines, UAE regulatory requirements, KYC, sanctions, and AML standards
• Coordinate with Operations for timely issuance of policies, endorsements, and certificates
• Prepare new business quotations using Quote Pad and update internal trackers for workflow visibility
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior underwriters
• Contribute to training, underwriting guidelines, process improvements, and best practices within the Engineering team

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related technical field
• Professional insurance qualification such as ACII, CPCU, FIII, or equivalent is preferred
• Minimum 5–8 years of underwriting experience in engineering lines with proven experience handling complex accounts
• Experience in the UAE or Middle East insurance market is an advantage
• Strong technical knowledge of engineering risks, catastrophe exposures, pricing, and reinsurance requirements
• Experience working with underwriting systems, rating tools, Quote Pad, and Microsoft Office and Excel
• Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Fluency in English is required
