Role overview

The Senior Engineering Manager will lead Faire's Analytics Platform team.

The team owns data warehousing, ETL pipelines, medallion datasets, BI tooling, and agentic analytics tools used across the company.

The role sets technical direction and strategy while leading a team and remaining engaged with architecture and code.

The platform aims to deliver timely, high-quality data and reduce the time from data to insight for company teams.

What you'll do

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of eight engineers.
  • Set the technical vision and roadmap for warehousing, pipelines, datasets, BI tooling, and integrations.
  • Lead scoping, planning, and prioritization across immediate needs and long-term investments.
  • Maintain data integrity, security, privacy, governance, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Own storage and compute cost efficiency, monitoring, alerting, and workload cost tracking.
  • Build AI/LLM-powered tooling and automation for faster, more accurate analytics.
  • Partner with Data Science, Analytics, Finance, and Product Engineering on platform priorities.
  • Triage and assign production issues and defects and develop preventive infrastructure or tooling improvements.
  • Engage with architecture, designs, and code to lead effectively.
  • Manage selected infrastructure vendor relationships.
  • Own process and team-structure decisions and recruit, hire, and retain engineering talent.

Qualifications

  • At least eight years of engineering experience, including at least three years in engineering leadership.
  • Experience building and operating data platforms, including warehousing, ETL pipelines, orchestration, and analytics engineering workflows.
  • Strong Python and SQL; willingness to write software for a couple of months during onboarding.
  • Understanding of performance, capacity, and cost trade-offs in data processing systems.
  • Experience diagnosing, mitigating, and addressing data system production issues at scale.
  • Demonstrated internal customer empathy and a track record of building platforms or tooling.
