Senior Engineer - Linux

Role overview

Linux and cloud operations

• Install, configure, maintain, upgrade, patch, and secure Linux servers, and monitor performance, availability, access, and system security.
• Deploy and manage Linux workloads on OCI and Azure, including compute, networking, storage, identity, monitoring, and logging services.
• Implement cloud backup, disaster recovery, high availability, governance, patch orchestration, and performance and cost optimization.

Infrastructure, storage, and recovery

• Manage physical and virtualized environments, including VMware provisioning, lifecycle management, and performance tuning.
• Administer SAN/NAS, RAID, LUNs, zoning/masking, NFS/SMB integrations, multipathing, LVM, udev, filesystems, and capacity.
• Maintain hybrid connectivity and implement backup, restore, replication, and disaster recovery procedures; participate in recovery drills and testing.

Automation, security, and support

• Develop Bash, Python, or shell automation and use configuration management and infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Manage monitoring and logs, security and vulnerability practices, compliance, firewall rules, SELinux policies, and access controls.
• Provide L2/L3 support, take part in incident management and on-call rotation, collaborate with DevOps, application, and database teams, and prepare technical documentation and SOPs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of hands-on enterprise Linux system administration experience, including production operations and on-call support.
• Strong enterprise Linux, OCI, Azure, and storage administration expertise; working knowledge of Oracle Database administration on Linux is mandatory.
• Experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V, Bash scripting, Ansible, patch management, networking, backup/restore, and disaster recovery.
• Ansible is required; Terraform is preferred. Experience with Red Hat Satellite and Azure Update Manager is required.

Preferred experience and credentials

• RMAN backup concepts and Data Guard fundamentals are preferred.
• NetApp ONTAP, HPE 3PAR, and IBM storage experience is highly desirable; Brocade and/or Cisco MDS familiarity is a plus.
• RHCE, OCI, and Azure Administrator (AZ-104) certifications are preferred; Kubernetes/Container certifications are optional but preferred.
• Kubernetes/OpenShift experience, additional database knowledge, and monitoring-tool exposure are nice to have.

Working conditions

• Participate in an on-call rotation and support planned maintenance windows and critical incidents.
• Occasional after-hours work may be required for changes and upgrades.
