Senior Engineer - Geology
About the Role
WSP's Global Capability Centre (GCC) India is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer - Engineering Geology to support Global Mining projects. The role will focus on engineering geological modelling, geological and geotechnical database management, structural interpretation, tailings dam ground characterization and the preparation of geological inputs for numerical modelling. The successful candidate will develop and maintain three-dimensional Leapfrog models, manage geological and geotechnical information in OpenGround Cloud, and integrate borehole, CPT, laboratory, geophysical and structural datasets into technically defensible engineering geological models. The role will work closely with tailings, geotechnical, mine engineering and numerical modelling specialists.

Responsibilities
- Compile, review, clean and validate geological, geotechnical and spatial datasets before modelling. • Build conceptual and three-dimensional engineering geological models for tailings storage facilities and mining infrastructure. • Delineate bedrock surfaces, weathering profiles, stratigraphic units, paleochannels, structural features and engineering geological domains. • Create and manage OpenGround Cloud projects, including data import, validation, standardization, permissions, outputs and integration with Leapfrog. • Prepare geological database structures, data dictionaries, validation rules and QA/QC records to support traceability and reliable model updates. • Interpret drill core and borehole records, geological mapping, structural measurements, CPT data, laboratory results and geophysical information. • Generate representative sections, surfaces, volumes and parameter domains for numerical modelling teams. • Work with numerical modellers to confirm that geological geometry, material boundaries, parameter zones and structural controls are transferred correctly. • Update models efficiently as new investigation or monitoring data become available and maintain clear version control. • Complete assigned work in accordance with agreed scope, schedule, budget, quality and health and safety requirements.
- Tailings Dam and Numerical Modelling Support • Provide engineering geological input to tailings dam investigations, design assessments, reviews and closure studies. • Develop ground models that support seepage, slope stability, deformation, liquefaction and foundation assessments. • Identify geological and structural conditions that may influence seepage pathways, foundation performance, stability or deformation behaviour. • Support derivation and spatial assignment of material units and engineering parameters in collaboration with geotechnical engineers. • Review numerical model geometry against geological interpretations and document key assumptions, simplifications and uncertainties. • Assist with interpretation of modelling outcomes where geological conditions influence predicted performance.
- Project Delivery and Collaboration • Work as part of integrated Global Mining teams and coordinate inputs with tailings, geotechnical, mine engineering, hydrogeology, mine water and environmental disciplines. • Participate in technical reviews, model reviews, investigation planning, risk workshops and project meetings. • Prepare technical deliverables suitable for internal review and client issue. • Support proposals, scope development, task estimates and work planning for engineering geology assignments. • Provide coaching and task-level review for graduate and junior geologists and engineering geologists. • Contribute to standard workflows, templates, model governance, lessons learned and capability development within GCC India.
