• The opportunity
• The Transmission / DCI Network Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of Data Center Interconnect (DCI) infrastructure across Core42’s network environment.
• This role focuses on ensuring high performance, scalability, and resilience of DWDM/OTN networks supporting cloud and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads.
• You will play a key role in optimizing network performance, leading advanced troubleshooting activities, and supporting the deployment and evolution of large-scale transmission infrastructure.
• Working closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors, you will ensure that Core42’s network solutions meet the highest standards of reliability, efficiency, and security.
• Your key responsibilities
• Design, implement, and manage Data Center Interconnect (DCI) infrastructure using DWDM/OTN technologies, ensuring high availability and performance
• Lead advanced L3 troubleshooting and incident resolution for complex transmission and optical network environments
• Plan and optimize network capacity, traffic flows, and infrastructure utilization to support growing cloud and HPC demands
• Develop and review High-Level and Low-Level Designs (HLD/LLD), ensuring alignment with best practices and security standards
• Manage deployments, upgrades, maintenance activities, and change requests across data center environments
• Collaborate with internal teams, WAN providers, and technology vendors to deliver scalable and efficient network solutions
• Oversee network testing and acceptance, including fiber validation and service verification using NMS and specialized tools
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations, architecture, and operational processes
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing across network engineering teams
• What we’re looking for
• (a) Required skills / qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Telecommunications Engineering
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience working with DWDM/OTN technologies in DCI or large-scale network environments
• Strong expertise in optical transmission networks, including design, implementation, and troubleshooting
• Proven experience working with advanced transmission technologies such as:
• Flex Grid and Super-Channels
• Coherent optical transmission
• CDC (Colorless, Directionless, Contentionless) architectures
• Layer 1 encryption
• MS-OTN environments
• Solid knowledge of fiber optic infrastructure, including implementation, testing, and acceptance processes
• Hands-on experience with testing equipment such as OTDR, OSA, Ethernet Analyzers, and Optical Light Source/Power Meter (OLS/PM)
• Good understanding of IP networking concepts and their integration with transport layers
• Knowledge of cloud and high-performance computing (HPC) environments and their interconnect requirements
• (b) Preferred skills / qualifications
• Vendor certifications in optical/network technologies (e.g. Ciena, Nokia) are highly desirable
• Experience working in large-scale, mission-critical, or hyperscale environments
• Strong vendor management and stakeholder engagement skills
• Experience supporting NOC operations and collaborating with L1/L2 teams
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting capabilities in high-availability environments
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across cross-functional teams
