Role purpose

Australian Payments Plus is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer for its payments environment.

The role designs, builds, and improves infrastructure and integration pipelines for secure, scalable, high-performing software delivery.

This is a hands-on senior engineering position covering automation, system integration, cloud infrastructure, deployment, observability, and AI-assisted operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software components, scripts, and integration services.
  • Lead system integration across configuration, testing, fault diagnosis, and deployment.
  • Provision, configure, and optimise physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Build automation to reduce administration and improve deployment reliability.
  • Coordinate releases, deployments, testing, quality assurance, and production readiness.
  • Improve DevOps processes, tooling, and observability with AI-assisted monitoring and automation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support engineering capability development.

Capabilities and experience

  • Approximately 5+ years of DevOps or equivalent engineering experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • AI-enabled software delivery and operations expertise with responsible application.
  • Knowledge of cloud deployment, automation frameworks, and observability tooling.
  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and performance optimisation skills.
  • Ability to lead initiatives and mentor junior engineers.
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication capability.
  • Payments or financial technology exposure is advantageous.

Technical proficiency

  • Strong CI/CD pipeline and automation framework knowledge.
  • Experience with Terraform, OpenTofu, or CDK for Infrastructure as Code.
  • Scripting with Bash, Python, or Go.
  • Container orchestration with Kubernetes or ECS and cloud platforms, with AWS preferred.
  • Event-driven and microservices architecture knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of GitOps with ArgoCD, observability with Dynatrace, and security tooling such as Wiz.
  • Cloud, DevOps, or scripting certifications are desirable.
