Role Description
Senior Database Administrator is a part-time, hybrid role based in Dubai, with flexibility to work remotely for part of the schedule.
The role manages, maintains, and optimizes databases for high availability, security, and performance.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement database architectures; monitor systems and perform backups and restorations.
- Manage replication and resolve database-related issues.
- Collaborate with application developers and stakeholders to support data integrity and best practices.
- Plan capacity for future growth.
- Document configurations, contribute to data governance policies, and recommend improvements supporting organizational objectives.
Qualifications
- Strong database administration skills and experience managing production environments.
- Proficiency in database design, schema design, normalization, indexing, and performance optimization.
- Ability to troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, errors, and connectivity problems.
- Hands-on experience with replication and high-availability solutions, such as failover clustering, mirroring, or other redundancy mechanisms.
- Experience with major RDBMS platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL; familiarity with cloud database services.
- Knowledge of database security, backup and recovery strategies, and data protection compliance.
- Ability to translate organizational needs into technical database solutions and collaborate across disciplines.
- Computer Science, Information Systems, or related academic background, or equivalent practical experience.
- Previous senior or lead database role experience; nonprofit, advocacy, or public-interest experience is an advantage.
Workplace
- Hybrid work based in Dubai, with remote work available for part of the schedule.
