Role overview
The Database Administrator role uses DevOps skills to support engineering teams and a “you build it, you run it” culture.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement data processing in a big data environment.
- Design and manage databases in a cloud environment; build and sustain data ingress, processing, and distribution pipelines.
- Identify efficient technology approaches for implementing business logic and align with the broader DevOps organization.
- Maintain relationships with technical counterparts at vendors and external partners.
- Implement monitoring and alerting to support customer-related SLAs; identify and track SLAs for review.
- Manage cloud engineering and production costs.
- Collaborate with Support to build tools for customer communications.
- Identify where managed services are preferable to self-hosting.
Experience and skills
- 8–12 years of industry experience.
- Database skills: RDS, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL Server management.
- Scripting: Perl, Python, and Bash.
- Infrastructure as code: CloudFormation, Terraform, and Helm.
- Containers: Docker and Kubernetes.
- GitOps/CI: ArgoCD, Argo Workflows, and GitHub Actions.
- Cloud: AWS; operating system and tools: Linux, Jira, and GitHub.
