About the Role

The Data Platform Engineer joins the Data Platform Operations team.

The role owns day-to-day operation and monitoring of data platforms and pipelines and drives operational and maintenance improvements.

The engineer works with data engineers, analysts, and platform teams to keep data platforms stable, observable, cost-efficient, and ready for new use cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor Azure and on-premises or legacy data platforms for availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Run data processing workflows, handle incidents, troubleshoot failed jobs, and coordinate fixes with development teams.
  • Improve monitoring, alerting, logging, and SLA or SLO practices for data platforms and pipelines.
  • Automate recurring operational tasks, reduce manual intervention, and improve operational risk controls.
  • Improve deployment, rollback, and change-management practices.
  • Operationalize new data products and integrate them into existing platform standards.
  • Maintain runbooks, standards, best practices, and knowledge sharing across the data organization.

About You

  • Hands-on experience in data platform operations, data engineering, or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of batch processing, scheduling, dependencies, failures, and backfills.
  • Practical experience with some Azure data services or traditional ETL tools.
  • Comfort with SQL and modern version-control workflows, including branches, pull requests, and code reviews.
  • Problem-solving mindset focused on stability, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Good communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Modern data stack experience may include AWS, Snowflake, dbt or SQLMesh, Git or GitHub, CI/CD, Kubernetes, Kafka, infrastructure as code, and platform automation.
  • Scripting or programming skills are desired in SQL or Procedural SQL, Python, or Bash.
  • Ability to build small tools and utilities for automation, monitoring, or system integration.
