Senior CEA Solutions Engineer (Remote)

About This Role
About Gebbora
Gebbora builds software for the global agriculture industry.
The platform is a suite of products spanning the design, planning, financing, and daily operation of farms, used by engineers, consultants, agronomists, growers, and investors.
The first product to ship publicly is the Gebbora Greenhouse Simulator, a browser-based simulation tool that runs 8,760-hour climate physics on real weather data and returns yield, energy, water, and CO2 numbers for a given design.
It is used today in active projects across the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa, with users in Europe and North America as well.
Pricing is pay-as-you-go and curated for accessibility across the emerging economies as well as the developed ones.
Three more products are in active development.
A free tier with 250 simulation credits is available at gebbora.com.
The role:
You currently size greenhouse designs against hourly climate data for client projects.
You have used custom Excel models, R or Python scripts, commercial modeling software, or some combination, and you have felt the friction.
You know what is missing in the tools the industry runs on today, because you have worked around those gaps yourself.
In this role:
1.
You sit on the customer side of the platform.
You work directly with growers, consultants, and project owners on their actual greenhouse designs, walking them through the design phase from first-pass sizing to final hand-off to construction.
2.
You run the simulations, interpret the outputs, surface the trade-offs, and stay with each project as it evolves.
Some customers arrive with a clean brief.
Most do not, and the work becomes part design, part translation, part judgment.
You are the person they call when a number does not look right and they need someone who can explain why.
3.
You partner with clients through the entire process, all the way up to a successful delivery of a design ready for implementation.
The exposure is the unusual part of the role. A conventional CEA design career runs on a slow drip of three to five projects a year, in one or two climate zones, with one or two customer profiles. Here you will work across dozens of projects in a single year, spanning climates from the Sahel to the Indian subcontinent, structures from low-tech tunnel houses to multi-span Venlos, crops from leafy greens to high-value floricultural varieties, and customer profiles from owner-operator small farms to investor-backed commercial builds. The portfolio of design variations you accumulate in twelve months here is the kind of breadth most CEA design careers take a decade to build.
The job sits between product, customers, and the field.
Outputs include the design work itself, the technical blog posts and case studies that come out of it, presence at industry events, and a steady stream of customer-grounded feedback that shapes the product roadmap.
What you will do
- 1.
- Partner with customers through the full greenhouse design phase.
- First-pass sizing, climate and energy modeling, trade-off exploration, iteration on the design, and hand-off to construction.
- 2.
- Run simulations on the Gebbora platform for the customer's actual project.
- Translate ambiguous briefs into runs that answer the question the customer really needs to ask.
- 3.
- Build a portfolio of design variations across climates, structures, crops, and customer profiles.
- Each project adds to the bank of cases that informs the next one and the rest of the team's work.
- 4.
- Write technical content drawn directly from the real customer work.
- Blog posts, case studies, and methodology notes that carry the weight of actual project experience.
- 5.
- Represent Gebbora at CEA industry events.
- AgriNEXT, GreenTech Amsterdam, Indoor AgCon, Saudi Agriculture, and similar.
- 6.
- Feed customer-grounded priorities into the product roadmap.
- The engineering team builds against what real projects need, and the closest read on that is yours.
- What you need to have done before:
- Three or more years of practical experience designing or sizing controlled-environment agriculture projects. Greenhouses, vertical farms, hybrid systems.
- Working familiarity with greenhouse climate modeling. Stanghellini, Penman-Monteith FAO-56, VPD and DLI calculations, energy balance.
- Hands-on time with at least one greenhouse climate or energy modeling tool, whether commercial software, a custom Excel model, or your own R or Python code.
- Native or near-native English. Plus one of Arabic, French, Hindi, Spanish, or Portuguese for regional client work. Other languages welcome.
- Comfort writing technical content for a public audience. You should be able to write a 1,500-word piece on a CEA topic without it sounding like a brochure.
- Academic background in horticulture, agricultural engineering, building physics, or a closely related field.
- Nice to have:
- Published technical work, Conference papers, peer-reviewed papers, trade-press articles.
- Consulting background. Independent or inside a firm.
- Experience on CEA projects in emerging markets. MENA, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America.
