Senior Backend Software Engineer – Node.js & Data

Role overview

Key responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend systems using Node.js and TypeScript; develop reliable, high-performance REST APIs.
• Work with large datasets and complex data structures; design, optimize, and maintain MongoDB databases.
• Build data ingestion, processing, transformation, matching, and normalization workflows; address duplicate, inconsistent, or incomplete data.
• Integrate multiple third-party APIs and external data sources; build background jobs, queues, caching, and asynchronous processing systems.
• Improve API, database, and application performance; troubleshoot complex production and data-related issues.
• Integrate AI and LLM services; contribute to architecture decisions, review code, and maintain engineering standards.
• Collaborate with Product, Mobile, Web, Data, and AI teams.

Required experience

• At least 5 years of backend software engineering experience.
• Strong professional experience with Node.js and TypeScript; strong experience with NestJS and/or ExpressJS.
• Strong experience with MongoDB and Mongoose; experience with large or complex datasets, data modeling, and database optimization.
• Experience building and optimizing REST APIs and integrating third-party APIs and external data sources.
• Experience with Redis and background job processing; BullMQ and/or RabbitMQ experience.
• Experience with Docker, Git, and CI/CD; understanding of scalable backend architecture and microservices.
• Strong debugging and performance optimization skills.
• Strong experience in at least some data engineering areas, including ingestion, transformation, matching, deduplication, data quality, ETL, or scheduled processing.

AI integration and preferred experience

• AI or LLM integration is a strong advantage, including AI APIs, function calling, structured outputs, RAG, embeddings, vector search, or prompt engineering.
• Nice to have: web scraping and data extraction, Playwright/Puppeteer, proxy and anti-blocking solutions, AWS, MongoDB Atlas, WebSockets, or Elasticsearch.
• Experience with recommendation, search, marketplace, food delivery, or comparison platforms is nice to have.

Working approach

• Expected to work independently on complex backend and data problems and take ownership from problem definition through production deployment.
• Should be comfortable with large, messy datasets and able to review and improve existing architecture and code.
• Should communicate technical decisions clearly with technical and non-technical teams.
