About NALA
NALA builds cross-border payments products for consumers and businesses.
Its consumer app enables transfers from the UK, US and EU to Africa and Asia; its Rafiki product provides B2B payments infrastructure.
Team mission
Squad T-Rex builds the wallet foundation for additional financial products and competitive cross-border payments.
The team is developing multi-currency wallets and accounts infrastructure for customer and business payments, with expansion into new markets.
Role responsibilities
- Own architecture and implementation decisions for the wallet and Global Accounts foundation.
- Lead design through RFCs, diagrams, API and system specifications; align on solutions before implementation.
- Translate business intent into technical requirements with product management and stakeholders.
- Build virtual account provisioning, initially for US account details for non-resident customers, and improve wallet delegation success rates.
- Support Global Accounts launches in new markets and stablecoin card capability.
- Set engineering quality across API standards, testing, code reviews and maintainability.
- Plan and deliver complex work end to end, balancing speed with correctness for systems handling customer money.
- Join a compensated on-call rota one week per month after onboarding.
Must-have requirements
- Translate business intent into technical requirements and establish clean system boundaries.
- Understand financial-grade correctness, reliability, auditability and operational readiness.
- Apply maintainability principles, including single responsibility and separation of concerns.
- Know API consistency, versioning, backward compatibility and developer experience fundamentals.
- Use a design-first approach: draw diagrams, write RFCs, explore hypotheses and visualize systems before implementation.
- Gather requirements, challenge assumptions and collaborate with product managers and stakeholders.
How engineering works
- Engineers are expected to embed in a product squad and build domain knowledge and trust through delivery before broadening their impact.
- The environment is high-pace and VC-backed; priorities can shift and ambiguity is normal.
- Ownership includes end-to-end alignment and collaboration with engineers and chapter standards.
- Design reviews, consultation and feedback loops are valued alongside autonomy.
