Senior Backend Engineer, Core APIs (SRE Focus)

Role overview

Workplace

• The team is fully remote and globally distributed, with asynchronous collaboration across a wide range of countries subject to local requirements.
• Employees must be authorized to work from their home location; visa sponsorship is not provided.

Accountabilities

• Design and optimize backend services for real-time data processing and web APIs.
• Define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for core API services.
• Build observability through metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, and alerts.
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and blameless post-incident reviews.
• Automate operational work, conduct capacity planning and load testing, and improve performance.
• Investigate production issues and translate findings into engineering improvements.
• Mentor engineers and improve technical and operational standards.

Requirements

• At least five years of backend software engineering experience operating production systems.
• Experience with formal SRE practices, including error budgets, capacity planning, readiness reviews, or resilience testing.
• Strong experience with Go and/or Node.js and scalable backend systems, APIs, microservices, and real-time data services.
• Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes or comparable technologies.
• Experience with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation and observability platforms such as Datadog.
• Production on-call, incident response, SQL, database, distributed systems, scalability, and performance engineering experience.
• Excellent English communication, independent ownership, cross-team collaboration, and interest in mentoring.

Compensation reference

• US-based employees have a cash compensation reference of $150,000-$200,000 yearly; ranges vary according to hiring location.
• Country-specific employment requirements and compensation structures may apply outside the United States.
