Senior Application Software Engineer

Position overview

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain secure application software, services, APIs, and integrations.
• Deliver medium-sized features and quality improvements with measurable reliability, performance, and maintainability outcomes.
• Translate ambiguous requirements into scalable designs, implementation plans, and technical documentation.
• Lead code reviews in designated areas and recommend development practice improvements.
• Troubleshoot application, API, integration, and production issues.
• Participate in production support, incident investigations, root cause analysis, observability improvements, and operational readiness.
• Partner with QA and engineering teams to define test strategy and maintain consistency across modules.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate on feature delivery and service improvements.

Minimum qualifications

• U.S. citizenship and an active U.S. Government TS/SCI with Poly security clearance are required at hire.
• Software development experience: 8 years; or relevant technical bachelor’s degree plus 4 years; or relevant technical master’s degree plus 2 years; or relevant technical doctorate.
• At least 4 years of programming and/or scripting experience and 3 years of database experience.
• Experience with distributed systems, software engineering practices, API development or integration, source control, debugging, and secure development.
• Ability to communicate technical ideas through design documents, implementation notes, code reviews, and operational handoffs.

Preferred qualifications

• Eight years of software development experience or equivalent advanced degree plus experience is preferred.
• Two years of cloud platform experience, such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, is preferred.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, Linux, observability, incident response, and reliability improvement is preferred.
• Experience with production services in regulated, classified, sovereign, or air-gapped environments is preferred.

Compensation

• U.S. hiring range is $87,000–$187,000 per year; the role may be eligible for bonus and equity.
