Oldham Council is recruiting Senior Accountants to support financial decision-making and effective management of public funds.
Two opportunities are available: Adult Social Care, and Capital and Treasury.
Contract and salary
- Permanent role with 36.66 hours per week.
- Salary is £48,738 to £53,051 per annum at Grade 9.
Key responsibilities
- Lead budget preparation, monitoring and forecasting across revenue or capital budgets.
- Provide strategic financial advice, support and challenge to budget holders and senior managers.
- Support annual accounts, statutory returns and financial statements.
- Develop financial models, business cases and investment appraisals.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities and recommend mitigating actions.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, accounting standards and council policies.
- Drive continuous improvement within the finance function.
Candidate profile
- A professional accounting qualification such as CCAB, CIMA or equivalent, or significant experience at Senior Accountant level, is sought.
- The role calls for analytical and problem-solving ability, stakeholder partnership, clear communication, organisation and attention to detail.
- Local government or wider public-sector experience is advantageous, while transferable experience from other sectors is welcomed.
