Role Description
We are seeking a highly capable Senior Accountant to join the Finance team of a fast-growing shipping and chartering company.
The role is critical to maintaining strong financial governance, accurate reporting, and operational support in a complex maritime environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in voyage accounting, audit coordination, internal control compliance (ICFR), balance sheet integrity, and financial reporting.
This position requires a hands-on professional who can manage technical accounting matters while working closely with operations, chartering, and senior management.
Audit & Governance
- Serve as primary finance contact for external auditors and shareholder reviews
- Coordinate audit requests and ensure timely and accurate submission of documentation
- Track audit findings and support remediation actions
- Support statutory reporting and compliance requirements
Internal Controls & Icfr
- Maintain and update documentation of financial controls in line with ICFR frameworks
- Support control testing, walkthroughs, and remediation activities
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and governance standards
- Contribute to strengthening the overall control environment
Voyage & Chartering Accounting
- Review accounting for revenues and costs across multiple chartering structures (Voyage Charter, Time Charter In/Out, Bareboat, etc.)
- Monitor and validate accruals for hire, bunkers, port expenses, and voyage-related costs
- Ensure proper revenue recognition and matching of costs in line with IFRS
- Support reconciliation between operational data and financial records
Financial Reporting & Close
- Oversee monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including high-value operational accounts
- Investigate variances and ensure completeness and accuracy of supporting schedules
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes under tight timelines
- Assist in preparation of financial statements and management reports
Systems & Process Improvement
- Support finance system enhancements and integration initiatives
- Participate in process improvement projects to strengthen controls and efficiency
- Promote best practices across accounting and reporting activities
Technical Accounting Support
- Provide accounting guidance on complex transactions and contracts
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and company accounting policies
- Support analysis of new business activities and reporting requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- ACCA / CA qualified or finalist (CPA equivalent considered)
- 4–7 years of relevant experience in audit firm and/or shipping industry
- Strong experience in audit handling, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Experience in shipping, maritime, logistics, or asset-intensive industries preferred
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, particularly IFRS 15 and IFRS 16
- Good understanding of shipping revenue recognition and voyage accounting concepts
- Experience working with ERP systems (Oracle or similar preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills
