The Senior Accountant owns full-cycle accounting, project profitability, and daily financial operations.
The role manages multi-state and international payroll, leads AR/AP workflows, and partners with the Financial Controller on close, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.
The accountant also supports project burn-rate, margin, and labor-utilization analysis.
Payroll and benefits administration
- Process multi-state semi-monthly or monthly payroll for salaried, hourly, and international contractor and employee teams.
- Handle DOL/DOR inquiries and respond promptly and confidentially to team members' payroll questions.
Close and financial reporting
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures to support timely, accurate GAAP compliance.
- Prepare journal entries, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, and prepaid expense schedules.
- Support financial modeling, variance analysis, and management dashboard updates.
Accounts receivable and revenue
- Manage invoicing, milestone billing, customer accounts, collections, billing discrepancy resolution, and revenue schedules.
- Support revenue recognition schedules tailored to software models.
Project financial management
- Track project expenditure, budgets versus actuals, and burn rates across active client engagements.
- Report client and project profitability, gross margins, and milestone completion metrics.
- Align project billing schedules with deliverables and scope changes alongside Project Managers and Account Leads.
- Analyze billable rates, utilization, and labor costs; establish project reporting templates to identify margin risks and improve forecasting.
Qualifications
- Requires 3–6+ years of general accounting experience, including at least 2+ years in a tech, startup, or software/tech services environment.
- Requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Requires advanced cloud ERP experience and familiarity with GAAP, multi-state payroll, project accounting, and revenue recognition basics.
- Requires project-cost, billable-margin, and client-profitability analysis experience, plus clear communication with non-finance colleagues.
- CPA certification or active progress toward CPA is a plus; familiarity with project tracking and modern tech stack platforms is also listed.
