Security Operations Centre (SOC) Analyst - Night Shift

About the role

What you'll do

• Monitor, investigate, and escalate security incidents; analyze events to identify suspected intrusions and compromises.
• Investigate malicious URLs, domains, IPs, suspicious sign-ins, phishing, malware, and network logs using intelligence sources.
• Provide threat mitigation guidance using industry practices and vendor recommendations.
• Improve investigative methods with SOC colleagues and maintain process documentation and the knowledge base.
• Report log coverage gaps, parsing issues, and high false-positive volumes.
• Respond to member-reported incidents and service requests under established SLAs, applying cybersecurity and privacy principles.

Education and experience

• Cybersecurity diploma or equivalent technical training in cybersecurity.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity risks and incident investigation, response practices, vulnerability management, and IT service management.
• Experience with SIEM and UEBA technologies, incident response playbooks, suspicious sign-ins, phishing, malware, network logs, and threat intelligence feeds.
• Understanding of MITRE ATT&CK and TCP/IP or other network protocols.
• Clear technical communication and strong documentation skills.

Preferred qualifications

• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or CySA+ are preferred.
• Hands-on cybersecurity projects, Capture the Flag competitions, or practical labs are highly desirable.
• Previous night-shift or independent work experience is an asset.

Schedule and conditions

• The SOC operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week; this position covers 10:00 pm to 6:00 am Alberta time, including weekends and holidays.
• A satisfactory employment and criminal record check is required for selected candidates.

Compensation and location

• Preference is given to Calgary, Alberta residents, but remote work within Canada will also be considered.
• Salary is commensurate with experience; relocation costs are not provided.
