Role overview

Access control and patrols

• Control access through designated gates and entrances, prevent unauthorised entry, and challenge or escort people from the site when required.
• Issue and manage access passes, operate security gates and access-control systems, and maintain accurate site key records.
• Carry out regular foot and vehicle patrols by day or night in all weather; escort visitors, products and materials as required.
• Monitor and enforce site parking and traffic rules when necessary.

Control room and reporting

• Monitor, operate and test CCTV, access control, intruder detection, fire detection and communication systems, including the telephone switchboard and site radios.
• Use computer systems to maintain records, update databases, manage access information and conduct routine vehicle and personnel searches.
• Produce clear written and verbal reports and maintain required security documentation.
• Respond to onsite incidents and emergencies, support investigations and work with relevant authorities and emergency services.
• Provide professional, friendly service and communicate with colleagues, tenants, visitors, emergency teams and the public.

Essential requirements

• At least one year of security experience and in-depth technical knowledge gained in the security industry.
• Valid SIA Security Guarding or Door Supervisor licence and a full, clean manual driving licence.
• Computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office, access control, intruder alarms and fire alarm systems.
• Strong communication, organisational and customer service skills; professional demeanour, judgement and integrity.
• Able to work independently and under pressure, deter or escort people, and use a fire extinguisher after carrying it at least 30 metres.
• Able to stand, walk or sit for extended periods, complete lengthy foot patrols in all weather, and work a 24/7 shift pattern.
• Able to maintain concentration while monitoring CCTV during day and night shifts.

Desirable qualifications

• A BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Control Room Supervision, 3–5 years' security experience, or a CCTV licence is preferred.
• Three-day First Aid at Work with Oxygen Therapy or First Aid certification is preferred.
• English is preferred.

Pay

• Base salary is £27,954.63 per annum; shift allowance is £291.19 per month.
• Total annual earnings including shift allowance are stated as £31,448.91 per annum; overtime is paid at time and a half of the flat rate.

Workplace

• Work is in person at Discovery Park in Sandwich, including duties across the site and in the control room.
• The position includes shifts covering 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
