Job Description
Key Duties and Areas of Responsibility
· Has experience in teaching General Science from Grades 6 to 8 (Years 7 – 9)
· Has experience in teaching Chemistry in High School Diploma or IBDP from Grades 9 to 12 (Years 10 –13)
· Is passionate about teaching and learning with a commitment to continuous improvement
· Will be committed to the vision of igniting passion, purpose and potential in our students
· Can contribute to the development of the Science Department offering creative opportunities to enrich the learning experience of students at THIS
· Has experience of planning and curriculum development
· Adapts the curriculum to fit student needs while maintaining overall class progress
· Assesses and records student development, while identifying problem areas and areas which need attention and improvement
· Has excellent communication skills with students, colleagues, parents, and school leaders
· Maintains high levels of behaviour among students, while promoting safety and compliance with school rules and guidelines
· Is passionate about learning beyond the curriculum.

- Plan and teach well-structured lessons
- Impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time

- Set homework and plan other out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding pupils have acquired

- Make accurate and productive use of assessment
- Know and understand how to assess the relevant subject and curriculum areas, including internal and external assessment requirements
- Make use of formative and summative assessment to secure pupils’ progress
- Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons
- Give pupils regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage pupils to respond to the feedback
- Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment
- Have clear rules and routines for behaviour in classrooms, and take responsibility for promoting good and courteous behaviour both in classrooms and around the school, in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy
- Have high expectations of behaviour, and establish a framework for discipline with a range of strategies, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly
- Manage classes effectively, using approaches which are appropriate to pupils’ needs in order to involve and motivate them
- Maintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary
- Fulfil wider professional responsibilities
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school, including fulfilling extra-curricular activity expectations and other ‘out of hours’ requirements
- Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues, knowing how and when to draw on advice and specialist support
- Deploy support staff effectively
- Take responsibility for improving teaching through appropriate professional development, responding to advice and feedback from colleagues
- Contribute fully to the extra-curricular program within the department and assist in the organization and running of curriculum days.
- Communicate effectively with parents with regard to pupils’ achievements and well-being
General
- To complete all other tasks that can be reasonably expected of a teacher
- To be fully aware of Health and Safety across the school
- Health and Safety
- Emphasizes the importance of safety in all areas of the curriculum, communicating to the pupils the importance of a responsible attitude towards personal safety, the safety of others and respect for The Hamilton International School’s property and equipment
- Perform playground duties on time and with due diligence to safeguard Hamilton students
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
- Ensure that, all the necessary health and safety rules and procedures are being followed
- Maintain an awareness of all the health and safety measures to be taken when in school
Personal And Professional Conduct
- All teachers are expected to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct.
- Teachers must maintain high standards of ethics and behavior, within and outside school, by:
- Treating pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher’s professional position
- Having regard for the need to safeguard pupils’ well-being
- Showing tolerance of and respect for the rights of others
- Ensuring that personal beliefs are not expressed in ways which exploit pupils’ vulnerability or might lead them to break the law
- Teachers must have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school in which they teach, and maintain high standards in their own attendance and punctuality
- Teachers must have an understanding of, and always act within, the cultural expectations of Qatar and the policies and expectations of the school which set out their professional duties and responsibilities.

Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in teaching from an accredited institution
- Required teaching certification for Qatar MOEHE
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of school
- Child Care and Protection
- Has experience teaching Chemistry at High School Diploma, IB Diploma Level or A Level (experience of teaching IB DP Chemistry would be advantageous)
Experience
Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience
Language : English is mandatory
