Position Description

The Manager for Expected Credit Loss (ECL) Governance oversees and manages the governance framework for provisioning under IFRS 9, ensuring accurate, reliable, and compliant ECL calculations for company portfolios.

This role guarantees the robustness of PD, EAD, LGD methodologies, and ensures thorough documentation, rigorous controls, and transparent communication with internal stakeholders, auditors and regulatory bodies

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the governance of ECL calculations in line with IFRS-9 and best practices
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust ECL governance frameworks and policies
  • Ensure robust methodologies for Probability of Default (PD), Exposure at Default (EAD), and Loss Given Default (LGD) across different portfolios
  • Oversee the quality, consistency, and completeness of ECL provisioning documentation and regulatory submissions
  • Manage stakeholder interactions including internal/external auditors and regulators to ensure clarity and compliance in all ECL-related discussions
  • Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary data and insight for ECL Modelling and forecasting

Key Activities

  • Perform annual validation of the ECL Models (PD, LGD and EAD) to ensure accuracy and alignment with best practices
  • Ensure data quality for ECL calculations by collaborating closely with other teams and ensure consistency across reporting
  • Conduct sensitivity analysis and scenario testing to assess the impact of internal portfolio changes and macroeconomic changes on portfolio provisioning
  • Provide guidance to stakeholders on ECL methodologies and governance practices
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks or weaknesses in ECL calculation processes, ensuring timely corrective actions
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on ECL performance, trends, and governance activities to senior management
  • Provide technical expertise and articulate complex modeling processes clearly to auditors, regulators, and internal stakeholders

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree Finance or accounting field

Work Experience

Minimum of 5 years of experience in credit risk management, financial reporting, or governance, with a strong focus on ECL frameworks
