About the Role
Hadlar Engineering Consultancy is seeking an experienced Associate Marine Geotechnical Freelance Engineer to provide independent technical review and verification of marine and geotechnical engineering assessments undertaken by the design team.
The role is focused on high-level technical oversight, peer review, constructability review, and engineering verification for complex marine and temporary works projects involving reclaimed land developments, marine slopes, pile foundations, crane platforms, and construction-stage geotechnical risk assessments.
The successful candidate will work alongside senior geotechnical and marine engineers to provide technical assurance and independent engineering judgement on analytical approaches, modelling assumptions, construction risks, and mitigation measures.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently review geotechnical and marine engineering analyses
- Review slope stability assessments and failure mechanisms
- Review finite element modelling outputs and assumptions
- Verify construction-stage geotechnical assessments
- Review crane platform and bearing capacity assessments
- Review vibro-driven pile installation assessments and associated risks
- Review FEM dynamic loading considerations associated with vibro hammer operations
- Assess adequacy of mitigation measures and operational restrictions
- Identify geotechnical risks, limitations, and constructability concerns
- Provide technical comments and review markups on reports and calculations
- Participate in technical workshops and coordination meetings where required
- Provide independent engineering judgement on temporary works and marine geotechnical risks
Required Experience
- Applicants should demonstrate strong experience in:
- Marine geotechnical engineering
- Reclaimed land and marine slope stability
- Temporary works engineering
- Pile foundation systems
- Vibro-driven pile installation
- Construction-stage geotechnical risk assessment
- Crane working platform assessments
- Ground deformation and settlement behaviour
- Dynamic and cyclic loading effects on soils
- Independent technical review / peer review roles
Experience
- with review or oversight of analyses undertaken using:
- PLAXIS 2D
- Slide2
- GeoStudio Suite
- GRLWeap
- Direct modelling experience is advantageous but not essential, as the primary role is technical review and engineering verification rather than production modelling.
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer status preferred
- Minimum 12+ years relevant experience
- Demonstrated marine and temporary works project experience
- Strong understanding of geotechnical risk and constructability
- Strong technical review and reporting capability
- Ability to work independently within a remote consultancy structure
