About Focal ME

Focal Middle East is a boutique integrated consultancy delivering cost management, engineering, and sustainability services under one roof.

We work with leading regional clients across a diverse portfolio of assets.

Our cost management team operates as single service provider across some of the region's most prominent developments.

The Role

We are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to support our Pre-Construction Estimation Lead across a varied pipeline of pre-contract commissions.

This is a client-facing role suited to an ambitious early-career professional who is confident in front of clients and design teams, communicates with clarity and polish, and wants to build a career in cost consultancy within a fast-moving, high-profile environment.

You will work across multiple sectors and asset types, gaining broad exposure to estimating, cost planning, and benchmarking on projects ranging from hospitality, commercial towers, cultural assets, masterplans and fit-out.

We particularly value candidates who understand construction from the ground up and want to bring that practical insight into a consultancy environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of cost estimates, cost plans, and order of magnitude budgets across all pre-contract stages
  • Management of quantity take-offs, measurement, and the development of bills of quantities
  • Contribute to benchmarking exercises and the maintenance of cost data
  • Prepare clear, well-presented cost reports and supporting documentation to high standards
  • Attend and contribute to client and design team meetings, presenting cost information confidently and professionally
  • Support value engineering and optioneering studies
  • Liaise with clients, architects, and engineers throughout the pre-contract phase

What We Are Looking For

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or Construction Management (RICS-accredited preferred)
  • A polished, professional manner and the ability to build rapport quickly with senior stakeholders
  • Early career, with up to around three years of relevant UAE/GCC experience
  • A strong grasp of construction methods, buildability, and how cost is driven on site, ideally developed through main contractor, subcontractor, or site-based experience
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence and presence to represent the firm directly to clients
  • Strong numerical and analytical ability, with a practical understanding of construction detail and a keen eye for what drives cost
  • Proficiency in Excel and CostX tools; familiarity with measurement software an advantage
  • Working towards or intending to pursue RICS chartership
  • A proactive, ambitious attitude and a genuine appetite to learn

What We Offer

  • Direct mentorship from senior cost management leadership
  • Exposure to a high-caliber client base and a varied project portfolio
  • Working with our in-house AI team to support cost management automation tool development
  • A clear development pathway including support towards professional chartership
  • A collaborative, integrated working environment across cost, engineering, and sustainability
  • Opportunity to grow within a rapidly expanding consultancy with regional exposure across the UAE and wider Middle East.
