Job Purpose

The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all fleet vehicles, trailers, and heavy equipment meet company quality, safety, and manufacturer standards before being released from the workshop.

The role involves conducting comprehensive Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI) after every repair, verifying workmanship, identifying defects, performing road tests, and preventing the release of vehicles with unresolved issues.

Key Responsibilitiesquality Inspection

  • Conduct 100% Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) on all vehicles after maintenance or repairs.
  • Verify that all repairs have been completed according to the work order.
  • Ensure repairs comply with OEM specifications and company maintenance standards.
  • Inspect vehicles for workmanship quality before release.
  • Reject vehicles that fail to meet quality requirements and return them for rework.

Technical Inspection

  • Inspect and verify repairs related to:
  • Diesel engines
  • Transmissions
  • Brake systems
  • Air brake systems
  • Steering systems
  • Suspension
  • Electrical systems
  • Air conditioning systems
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Fuel systems
  • Cooling systems
  • Tires and wheels
  • Flatbed and trailer components
  • Welding and fabrication work

Road Testing

  • Conduct road tests after major repairs where required.
  • Evaluate braking performance, steering, transmission operation, suspension, engine performance, vibration, abnormal noise, and overall vehicle drivability.
  • Report and document any deficiencies identified during road tests.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete and sign quality inspection checklists.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and vehicle release records.
  • Record non-conformities and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports.
  • Monitor repeat failures and identify recurring maintenance issues.

Process Compliance

  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company SOPs and OEM guidelines.
  • Verify that only approved spare parts and consumables are used.
  • Confirm critical fasteners are tightened to specified torque where applicable.
  • Ensure all safety-related repairs meet regulatory requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring defects.
  • Recommend improvements to maintenance procedures and inspection processes.
  • Participate in quality audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in developing and updating inspection checklists and SOPs.

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Ensure repaired vehicles comply with safety regulations before release.
  • Promote safe workshop practices.
  • Report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Ensure inspection equipment is maintained and calibrated where applicable.

Authority

  • The Quality Control Inspector has the authority to:
  • Stop the release of any vehicle that does not meet quality standards.
  • Reject incomplete or substandard repairs.
  • Request immediate corrective actions from technicians and supervisors.
  • Escalate repeated quality issues to the Workshop Manager or Head of Maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Technical certification in heavy vehicle maintenance is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum
  • 5 years
  • of experience in heavy truck, trailer, or fleet maintenance.
  • Experience in quality inspection, vehicle diagnostics, or workshop operations.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance processes.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of heavy-duty diesel engines.
  • Air brake systems.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Trailer maintenance.
  • Vehicle electrical systems.
  • Welding and fabrication inspection.
  • Ability to read workshop manuals and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with CMMS or fleet maintenance software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
