Title : Proxy Product Owner - Trade Location

Job Purpose

The Proxy Product Owner – Trade Products is responsible for supporting the implementation and ongoing development of Trade Finance system and solution rollout within the GTB product portfolio.

The role acts as the bridge between Product Management, Technology, Operations, and business stakeholders, ensuring accurate translation of product vision into detailed requirements, prioritised backlogs, and high‑quality delivery across operational processes, transaction workflows, and client experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Proxy Product Owner for the Trade Finance product set, supporting the Product Owner / Head of Trade Product in driving implementation and enhancements while ensuring consistency across markets and platforms.
  • Own and manage the Trade Product Delivery Backlog, working closely with Product Management, PMO, Technology, and Operations to ensure priorities are clearly defined, refined, and aligned with business outcomes, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
  • Translate high level product vision into detailed business and functional requirements, ensuring clarity on scope, acceptance criteria, and dependencies for development teams.
  • Provide Trade Finance domain expertise to delivery teams, covering products, operational processes, controls, and end‑to‑end client journeys, and act as a subject‑matter reference during development and implementation.

Support Product Management by

  • Ensuring active participation of relevant SMEs in working‑level product forums
  • Assisting in the creation and validation of Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), user stories, test cases, standard operating procedures, and implementation guides
  • Regularly engaging with the Head of Product and Trade Product Owner to track progress, risks, and delivery readiness

Key Measures

  • Delivery Effectiveness – backlog readiness, delivery accuracy, and timely implementation
  • Product Enhancements – successful delivery of approved enhancements and fixes
  • Client Experience – speed, usability, and frictionless client journeys
  • Product Governance – adherence to GTB, compliance, and risk frameworks
  • Stakeholder Satisfaction – effective engagement with Product, Technology, Operations, and Business
  • Team Enablement – contribution to team effectiveness and knowledge sharing

Operating Environment, Framework and Boundaries, Working Relationships

The role operates in a fast‑evolving Transaction Banking environment where processes are increasingly digitised and deployed across client ecosystems.

A solid understanding of trade fundamentals, digital platforms, APIs and agile delivery models is essential.

The Proxy Product Owner must balance rapid delivery with regulatory and control requirements, working closely with Technology, Operations, Vendors, Risk, Compliance, and GTB Product Management.

Strong collaboration with Sales and Coverage teams is also required to ensure client needs and market insights feed into product prioritisation.

Problem Solving

  • Apply a data‑ and analytics‑driven approach to identify issues, root causes, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop a strong understanding of client pain points and operational bottlenecks to inform prioritisation decisions.
  • Challenge delivery teams to consider simpler, digital‑first solutions, including buy vs. build options and partnerships with fintechs where appropriate.
  • Work with Operations and Technology to identify opportunities for process re‑engineering, automation, and digitisation.
  • Stay current on industry, technology, and fintech trends relevant to Trade and Supply Chain Finance.

Decision Making Authority & Responsibility

  • Day‑to‑day ownership of the Trade product backlog and delivery priorities as delegated by the Head of Trade Product and Trade Product owner
  • Accountability for requirements quality, delivery readiness, and functional sign‑off for Trade product developments and enhancements
  • Functional oversight of Business Analysts supporting Trade and Supply Chain Finance initiative

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Trade Finance product development or delivery within banking
  • Strong experience with agile product delivery and working alongside Technology teams
  • Deep understanding of Trade Finance products, processes, and controls
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and prioritisation skills
  • Effective stakeholder management and communication skills with senior leadership impact
