Salary and term

  • Salary range is £48,822 to £56,535.
  • The role is full-time and fixed-term for 42 months.

Programme context and role

The University of Hull's School of Engineering and Technology hosts externally funded research programmes, including work on healthcare and tissue engineering.

A £15.9 million MRC initiative, in collaboration with the Wellcome Trust, NC3Rs, and Innovate UK, supports novel human in vitro disease model clusters.

The role leads operational delivery across clusters, translating strategic objectives into an integrated programme with milestones, budgets, risks, responsibilities, and measurable outcomes.

The postholder has day-to-day accountability for project management, governance, stakeholder engagement, communications, and performance reporting.

Project leadership and governance

  • Lead programme planning and delivery, with defined milestones, deliverables, dependencies, responsibilities, and performance measures.
  • Design and manage MRC programme reporting, ensuring accurate, consistent, timely information from each cluster.
  • Run the Cross-Cluster Steering Committee process, including agendas, papers, decisions, and actions.
  • Monitor milestones and address risks to progress, quality, or dependencies.
  • Develop and establish a website showcasing cluster capabilities.

Stakeholders and partnerships

  • Resolve cross-cluster operational matters and escalate strategic, scientific, or major resource decisions to Academic Leads.
  • Advise cluster leads, funders, and external stakeholders on governance, reporting, and delivery processes.
  • Build networks across academic, industry, clinical, regulatory, and third-sector stakeholders.
  • Lead engagement with the Medicines Discovery Catapult and other partners to develop collaboration and translational opportunities.
  • Manage an opportunity pipeline and recommend potential collaborations against programme priorities.

Budget, training, events, and travel

  • Monitor expenditure against approved activity budgets, prepare forecasts, identify variances, and recommend actions; Academic Leads retain formal budget approval.
  • Lead cross-cluster training, workshops, symposia, sandpits, and stakeholder events throughout the UK.
  • Target activities toward measurable outcomes, follow-on collaboration, and funding.
  • Travel regularly between partner institutions, including semi-regular travel to Edinburgh.

Requirements

  • Ability to lead cross-cluster programme delivery, governance, stakeholder engagement, and performance reporting.
  • Ability to coordinate across academic, industry, clinical, regulatory, and third-sector partners.
  • Ability to monitor activity budgets, prepare forecasts, identify variances, and make recommendations.
  • Willingness to travel regularly between partner institutions, including semi-regular travel to Edinburgh.
