Project Leader Engineering Steelwork

Role overview

Project execution

• Lead engineering and technical delivery of steelwork packages, including platforms, walkways, support structures, stairways, and handrails.
• Manage work from detailed design through fabrication, installation, commissioning, and customer handover.
• Ensure designs meet operational, safety, maintenance, and accessibility needs; coordinate interfaces with baggage handling equipment, electrical systems, controls, architecture, and civil works.
• Support constructability reviews and cost-effective solutions; ensure compliance with project specifications, local regulations, airport standards, and design codes.

Engineering leadership and coordination

• Lead multidisciplinary teams and serve as the technical authority for steelwork engineering throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review and approve deliverables, calculations, drawings, models, and technical documentation; provide technical guidance and mentoring.
• Develop engineering execution plans, schedules, and deliverable tracking; coordinate with project, site, design, fabrication, subcontractor, procurement, construction, commissioning, and customer teams.
• Monitor progress, identify and mitigate technical risks, and provide technical resolutions during fabrication and installation.

Documentation, budget, quality, and safety

• Prepare and manage specifications, design reports, calculations, procedures, installation documentation, ITPs, risk assessments, and quality records.
• Maintain and archive engineering records and provide progress, technical status, risk, and mitigation reports.
• Monitor engineering budgets, resource use, and productivity; identify cost optimization opportunities and manage scope changes.
• Ensure quality requirements and support design risk assessments and HSE initiatives; promote safety in design and site execution.

Basic qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in structural, civil, or mechanical engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 10+ years of engineering experience in structural, civil, mechanical, industrial, or infrastructure environments.
• At least 5 years in steel structures, industrial systems, airport infrastructure, material handling systems, or comparable large-scale projects.
• Demonstrated leadership of engineering activities for complex steelworks projects.
• Strong understanding of structural design, steel fabrication, installation methods, and relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
• Ability to balance quality, schedule, cost, scope, and resources; strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder management.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and solution-oriented, with ability to perform under pressure.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% or as project needs require; proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Preferred qualifications

• PE, Chartered Engineer, or equivalent certification; project management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent.
• Experience with airport BHS and supporting steelwork infrastructure.
• Experience with STAAD, SAP2000, RFEM, Tekla Structures, AutoCAD, or similar structural software; familiarity with BIM workflows.
• Experience managing subcontractors, fabricators, and installation contractors; leadership and mentoring experience.
• Knowledge of international airport design standards and material handling industry practices.
