Responsibilities

• The Professional Surgical Coder performs advanced specialty professional coding for complex surgical encounters and serves as a subject matter expert to support coding accuracy, reimbursement integrity, and regulatory compliance.
• Codes complex specialty surgical encounters and interprets operative reports and clinical documentation to assign accurate procedure codes. Applies advanced modifier logic and coding principles to ensure compliant and optimal reimbursement. Resolves escalated coding issues and ensures consistency in specialty coding practices. Supports coding accuracy and reimbursement outcomes through advanced coding expertise and collaboration with stakeholders.
• Partners with coding teams and operational stakeholders to resolve complex specialty coding issues.
• Clearly explains coding rationale and documentation needs to stakeholders.
• Applies expert judgment to resolve complex, ambiguous coding scenarios with minimal guidance.
• Owns resolution of complex coding scenarios with accountability and precision.
• Drives consistency and reduces variation in complex coding practices.
• Ensures coding outcomes support reimbursement, reporting, and compliance.
• Applies updated coding guidance and supports adoption of best practice

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Surgical CPT coding experience preferred
