Role overview

ALTEN is seeking an experienced Production Planner for an aerospace manufacturing programme.

The role maintains the flow of critical components, resolves operational constraints, and protects customer delivery commitments.

Location is Gloucester; the posting explicitly states that the role is onsite.

Key responsibilities

  • Own high-priority components and recovery activities from order release through final shipment, tracking progress across the manufacturing lifecycle.
  • Identify bottlenecks, waiting periods, and delays, and take action to improve production flow.
  • Ensure every priority component has a clear next step, accountable owner, and achievable recovery action.
  • Coordinate with production, planning, scheduling, quality, logistics, and shop-floor teams; review critical components and communicate priorities.
  • Investigate and escalate resource shortages, machine capacity, quality concerns, and material availability constraints.
  • Track recovery actions, challenge priorities when needed, and communicate risks, blockers, and required actions to stakeholders.
  • Support reduced lead times, work-in-progress delays, and inefficiencies and improve on-time delivery through proactive monitoring.
  • Promote structured, data-driven production recovery and continuous improvement.

Required experience and qualifications

  • Proven manufacturing or production-environment experience; aerospace or highly regulated engineering experience is identified as ideal.
  • Strong experience in production control, manufacturing operations, production planning, expediting, or recovery activities.
  • Ability to track parts across multiple manufacturing operations, manage recovery plans, and achieve delivery milestones.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production flow, and shop-floor operations; ability to resolve bottlenecks and constraints.
  • Experience coordinating with production, scheduling, quality, logistics, and manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to manage and escalate material, quality, machine, and resource constraints; manage priorities, owners, deadlines, and follow-up.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills; comfortable in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.

Desirable experience

  • Desirable experience includes aerospace, manufacturing, engineering, or similarly complex production environments.
  • Additional desirable experience includes production planning, scheduling, expediting, recovery activities, and tracking components or work packages through manufacturing stages.

Work arrangement

  • Onsite work in Gloucester.
