Production Engineer (Steel Structure)

Job purpose

Production planning and execution

• Prepare and execute daily, weekly, and monthly production plans based on project requirements and delivery schedules.
• Supervise material preparation, cutting, drilling, fit-up, welding, grinding, and final assembly.
• Allocate manpower, machines, tools, and materials; coordinate jobs, set priorities, monitor progress, and address bottlenecks.
• Ensure fabricated components are ready for inspection, surface treatment, galvanizing, and dispatch on schedule.

Engineering and technical coordination

• Review approved shop and fabrication drawings, bills of materials, cutting lists, and project specifications before production.
• Ensure work follows approved drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and technical requirements; verify grades, section sizes, plate thicknesses, connection details, and welding requirements.
• Resolve drawing discrepancies with Design Engineers and Detailers; recommend productivity and waste-reduction improvements without compromising specifications.
• Ensure technical changes are approved and documented before implementation.

Quality assurance and control

• Coordinate with QC to meet AWS D1.1, relevant ASTM/EN standards, and project-specific requirements.
• Ensure compliance with approved WPS, qualified welding personnel requirements, and inspection plans.
• Monitor dimensional accuracy, welding quality, assembly alignment, and workmanship; coordinate inspections, testing, and NDT.
• Address nonconformities, reduce rework, implement corrective and preventive actions, and coordinate galvanizing or painting readiness.

Resources, cost, and safety

• Monitor manpower productivity, machine utilization, material consumption, production hours, and budgeted fabrication hours.
• Optimize cutting layouts and nesting; coordinate materials and consumables with Stores and Procurement and reduce downtime with Maintenance.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities through improved processes, resource allocation, and equipment utilization.
• Ensure compliance with company HSE procedures and applicable UAE occupational safety requirements.
• Supervise safe welding, cutting, grinding, lifting, rigging, and material handling; ensure PPE use, conduct toolbox talks, report hazards, and maintain housekeeping.

Reporting and improvement

• Prepare daily production reports covering completed work, manpower, quantities, and pending activities.
• Monitor output, wastage, rework, productivity, and delivery performance; report delays, shortages, and technical issues to the Production Manager.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives and support employee training and skills development.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Production Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5–8 years in structural steel fabrication or heavy steel manufacturing, including 2–3 years supervising fabrication workshop operations.
• Practical experience with industrial steel structures, PEBs, warehouses, platforms, pipe racks, and other structural steel assemblies.
• UAE or GCC steel fabrication industry experience is preferred.
