About CRA
CRA designs and manufactures custom-engineered systems for the energy and defence sectors, delivering projects through in-house design, engineering, and manufacturing.
Role overview
The Process Engineering Lead owns process design across flares, thermal oxidisers, H2S scrubbers, biogas cleaning and upgrading, and gas compression systems.
The role takes designs from sizing through commissioning and leads and develops the process engineering team.
Key responsibilities
- Originate design bases, heat and mass balances, PFDs, and P&IDs for projects.
- Size equipment, lines, and relief devices and prepare equipment and instrument process datasheets.
- Perform combustion, flare sizing, and thermal radiation calculations.
- Write control philosophies and cause-and-effect matrices with the E&I team.
- Represent CRA in client HAZOP, SIL, and design reviews and close out actions.
- Support applications with sizing, performance guarantees, and technical clarifications; check mechanical and E&I deliverables before release.
- Support FAT, commissioning, and performance testing; troubleshoot on site.
- Develop calculation templates and standard P&IDs for repeat products.
Qualifications and experience
- B.E./B.Tech in Chemical Engineering; Mechanical Engineers with a strong combustion background will be considered.
- At least 10 years of process design experience with an equipment manufacturer, package vendor, or EPC, including originated P&IDs and heat and mass balances.
- Design experience in at least one listed area: flares, thermal oxidisers or incinerators, burners, biogas treatment and upgrading, or gas compression and conditioning.
- Working knowledge of API 521, API 537, ISA 5.1, and burner management requirements such as NFPA 86, EN 746-2, or equivalent.
- HAZOP experience as the design owner and strong hand-calculation skills.
- HYSYS or similar simulation experience is an advantage; willingness to travel for FAT and site work is required.
- Hands-on design origination is required; relief valve sizing, simulation support, or plant operations alone are insufficient.
Benefits
- Benefits include medical insurance, learning and development support, clear career growth pathways, and work on critical energy and defence projects.
