Role overview

Engineering responsibilities

• Design and build scalable cloud-native Azure applications aligned with enterprise architecture and evolving business needs.
• Lead Angular or React front-end work to deliver responsive, accessible interfaces.
• Design and tune secure, scalable SQL Server database architectures, schemas, queries, and ORM usage.
• Translate stakeholder requirements and architecture plans into robust software components and technical solutions.
• Build and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines, quality gates, and repeatable releases; champion DevOps and developer-experience improvements.
• Own the development lifecycle with test-driven development, secure coding, and maintainability; assess tools that improve velocity and resilience.

Technical leadership and operations

• Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and promote engineering best practices and continuous learning.
• Present architecture decisions and technical strategies to the Enterprise Architecture Review Board.
• Resolve performance, architecture, and reliability issues; document architecture, workflows, and operational procedures.
• Uphold cybersecurity, data-governance, and regulatory requirements throughout software delivery.

Required qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive hands-on software engineering and system administration experience delivering enterprise-grade solutions.
• Principal Engineer or equivalent leadership experience designing scalable applications and integrating third-party platforms.
• Extensive API-first, cloud-native, event-driven, and distributed-systems experience.
• Advanced Java, C#, .NET Core, and ASP.NET proficiency; strong Angular development experience.
• Deep SQL Server and relational database skills, including schema design, query optimization, stored procedures, performance tuning, and ORM frameworks.
• Hands-on Microsoft Azure experience, including Azure Functions, App Services, Azure SQL, and Azure Storage.
• Knowledge of microservices, REST or gRPC, message queues, orchestration, system design, and architectural trade-offs.
• Able to contribute across the full software lifecycle and communicate and collaborate with stakeholders and vendors.

About BHSI

Compensation

• The Toronto base salary range is CAD 205,000 to 250,000, with annual bonus eligibility; total compensation depends on relevant skills, location, and experience.
