Principal Software Engineer – Java

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Lead backend feature design and delivery; collaborate on architecture, implementation plans, trade-offs, and technical risks.
• Build and review REST APIs, scheduled jobs, database schemas, and migrations; apply security and performance practices.
• Troubleshoot complex application, database, networking, performance, and production issues.
• Use AI-assisted tools for coding, debugging, refactoring, testing, and documentation while reviewing generated output.
• Mentor developers, establish coding standards, conduct reviews, and coordinate dependencies and delivery risks with QA, DevOps, and other teams.

Required technical skills

• Strong Java 17+ knowledge, including collections, generics, concurrency, multithreading, JVM fundamentals, object-oriented programming, and SOLID.
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, Big O, Spring Boot, REST standards, design patterns, clean code, and microservices.
• Cloud architecture experience or knowledge covering networking, gateways, load balancing, security, deployment, and monitoring; Azure, AWS, or GCP experience.
• Relational database design, SQL optimization, indexing, transactions, networking, and secure API communication.
• Working knowledge of messaging systems and job scheduling frameworks such as Kafka, Azure Service Bus, and Quartz or similar.
• Practical experience with AI coding tools and the ability to evaluate generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Ability to collaborate with architects, discuss technical trade-offs, mentor developers, and conduct code reviews.

Additional useful experience

• Database synchronization, data reconciliation, and maintaining consistency across systems are good to have.
• Familiarity with Flyway, Liquibase, Redis, or equivalent tools and technologies is good to have.
