Role overview
Work as a Principal Software Engineer supporting national security, defence, and critical infrastructure customers.
Lead a team while remaining hands-on across cloud, data engineering, analytics, and high-side systems.
Operate in a mission-driven environment solving complex real-world problems.
Technical skills
- AWS architecture, data engineering architectures and patterns, large-scale streaming analytics, and big data architectures.
- Kubernetes, Helm, and AWS services including EKS, Lambda, IAM, S3, VPC, and CloudWatch.
- CDK, GitLab, Golang, and Python.
- Event processing, event analytics, compliance, and high-to-low technology and engineering practices.
Working capabilities
- Work independently in a high-side, fast-paced, large-scale, cross-supplier environment.
- Communicate and influence from engineer level through customer director level.
- Provide technical team leadership and proxy product ownership.
- Hold the highest level of UK Government Clearance.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of engineers while switching between customer meetings and hands-on engineering.
- Support high-side systems and high-side-only code, including short-notice patching when failures occur.
- Explain frequent changes to stakeholders and contribute to technical customer decisions.
Work location
- The role is based at Roke’s Gloucester site.
