Principal Public Health Engineer

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Lead public health engineering design and technical delivery across multidisciplinary projects.
• Develop and review fire protection systems, including sprinkler, standpipe, foam, clean-agent, and specialized systems, and natural gas and LPG systems for buildings.
• Prepare and review calculations, system sizing, equipment selection, drawings, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
• Support design coordination and modelling; apply local authority regulations and relevant national and international codes.
• Provide technical assurance and lead design input from concept and feasibility through detailed, tender, and IFC stages, with construction support as required.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, structural, landscape, pool, interior design, and architectural disciplines.
• Identify design constraints, interfaces, risks, and opportunities and develop practical solutions.
• Advise clients and stakeholders, attend project and design meetings, and support scope, programme, resource planning, and delivery.
• Review technical submissions and respond to project queries; guide and mentor engineers.
• Contribute to proposals and bids, support digital improvement, and demonstrate safe, ethical, and inclusive conduct.

Essential qualifications and experience

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a relevant engineering discipline.
• At least 12 years of experience; local experience is preferred.
• Strong professional experience in public health engineering and building services design.
• Demonstrable experience designing water supply, drainage, gas, and fire protection systems.
• Experience delivering designs across project lifecycle stages and working in multidisciplinary design teams.
• Strong understanding of engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Ability to review designs and provide technical assurance.
• Strong communication skills, ability to organize and prioritize work, and ability to guide less experienced engineers.

Desirable qualifications
