Principal Platform Software Engineer

Role overview

Platform and software development

• Lead cross-team evolution of middleware patterns or runtimes to standardize interoperability at scale.
• Define and enforce versioning, deprecation, and rollout strategies that minimize downstream breaks.
• Drive shared observability baselines, including SLOs and error budgets, and resilience patterns across services.
• Design software solutions and analyze requirements to meet business and operational goals.
• Guide software lifecycle practices, develop features, lead code reviews, and clarify designs through specifications and documentation.
• Debug complex issues; develop fixes; implement testing, quality assurance, logging, monitoring, and observability.
• Profile and optimize performance, build scalable solutions, and resolve API functionality and integration issues.
• Implement API versioning, lifecycle, and interoperability strategies.

Architecture and customer support

• Contribute to software, systems, and service architecture; recommend project or design scope and support adherence to architectural standards.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching to developers; collaborate with stakeholders and research technology changes when appropriate.
• Investigate customer issues and maintenance problems, align solutions with stakeholders, and suggest product enhancements.
• Support timely issue resolution, customer communication, defect handling, and training processes.

Security and system operations

• Apply secure coding practices and development standards, participate in peer reviews, and support code quality.
• Perform maintenance and testing for system upgrades and vulnerability patches.
• Improve automation, testing, debugging, availability, health, support, and reliability.

Planning and team contribution

• Coordinate project tasks, timelines, deliverables, priorities, and technical oversight across projects and teams.
• Analyze complex problems, document strategies, and escalate unresolved or critical issues with proposed solutions.
• Coach and mentor junior team members and share knowledge across teams.
• Participate in candidate interviews, assess candidates, and provide hiring recommendations.
