Role overview

Principal Electrical Engineer serving as the power-systems technical lead for mission-critical data centre projects in the MENA region.

The role covers electrical system design and lifecycle delivery, from power architecture and utility strategy through construction support, commissioning, and performance validation.

Client engagement and technical leadership

  • Act as the primary electrical and power-systems contact for clients, leading design reviews, architecture presentations, and bid discussions.
  • Engage client-side experts, utilities including DEWA, ADDC, and FEWA, global stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Lead discussions on distribution strategy, redundancy, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Prepare Electrical Basis of Design, Design Basis Reports, architecture narratives, and technical presentations.
  • Contribute to proposals and responses to RFPs and TQRs.

Electrical architecture and design

  • Own electrical design for MV/LV distribution, AIS/GIS substations, centralized and modular UPS systems, generators, busbar trunking, earthing, lightning protection, and rack-level power delivery.
  • Design hyperscale and colocation facilities with 10–100 MW IT loads from concept through IFC.
  • Address high-density AI power environments, rack-level busway, 48V DC readiness, CDU interfaces, and resilient power distribution.
  • Coordinate UAE utility requirements and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence electrical submissions; address stated PUE and islanding/emergency-response requirements.
  • Define N, N+1, N+2, and 2N resilience strategies aligned with Uptime Tier III/IV standards.
  • Develop power-system topology and Sequence of Operations from concept through detailed design.

Engineering analysis and studies

  • Perform and direct electrical load, cable-sizing, voltage-drop, and power-balance calculations.
  • Lead power-system studies using ETAP or an equivalent tool, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, and harmonics.
  • Coordinate mechanical integration, including HVAC thermal loads on UPS systems, generator cooling, and CDU electrical demand.

Required working knowledge

  • Experience and working knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC loads and CDU electrical interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of fire protection, structural coordination, data centre operations and maintenance, and commissioning procedures.
