Role overview

The Principal Client Business Partner owns the Services agenda for a single strategically significant client.

The role combines client impact, commercial performance, delivery excellence, talent development, and thought leadership.

Services include consulting, data insights and analytics, loyalty and marketing programs, business experimentation, customer engagement, and security solutions.

Client and commercial leadership

  • Serve as senior Services relationship owner and trusted advisor to executive and C-suite stakeholders.
  • Define the client agenda, anticipate needs, and bring insights and solutions that deliver measurable business impact.
  • Own account sales, revenue, and margin performance; originate and convert advisory opportunities.
  • Lead proposals, pricing, internal approvals, and contract negotiations with minimal oversight.
  • Manage pipeline, re-engagements, cross-functional contributions, and profitable account growth.

Engagement delivery and people leadership

  • Lead complex advisory engagements and set the intellectual direction, analytical frameworks, and recommendations.
  • Ensure strong problem solving, analytical rigor, project governance, financial management, risk mitigation, and delivery quality.
  • Partner with delivery leaders to support execution and realization of client value.
  • Coach consulting teams and contribute to feedback, performance management, and career development.
  • Build inclusive, high-performing teams and mentor colleagues.

Thought leadership and enterprise contribution

  • Contribute to Services intellectual capital, methodologies, and market-relevant thought leadership.
  • Bring global perspectives and best practices to local client challenges and share knowledge across the Services community.
  • Model client-first leadership, accountability, integrity, collaboration, and thoughtful risk-taking.

Experience and qualifications

  • Extensive professional experience, including significant time in management consulting, advisory, or strategy roles.
  • Demonstrated success leading large, complex client accounts in financial services, payments, or adjacent industries.
  • Proven ability to achieve sales, revenue, and delivery targets independently in professional services.
  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution is required.
  • An MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is strongly preferred.
  • Experience at a top-tier strategy firm, Big 4 consultancy, or in-house advisory or strategy function is highly desirable.

Capabilities

  • Strong structured problem solving, hypothesis-driven analysis, executive storytelling, and impact-oriented recommendations.
  • Commercial acumen across pipelines, pricing, margins, and client economics.
  • Executive presence and ability to influence C-suite stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and financial modelling skills, including advanced Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
  • Ability to work independently in a matrixed, fast-paced environment and mobilize cross-functional teams.
  • Accountability, results orientation, continuous improvement, and a bias for action.

Security responsibilities

  • Follow Mastercard security policies, protect the confidentiality and integrity of accessed information, report suspected security violations, and complete required security training.
