Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and board-certified Consultant Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon to join a leading healthcare institution in Saudi Arabia.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing advanced surgical care to infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired heart diseases.

This role requires expertise in complex paediatric cardiac surgery, multidisciplinary collaboration, and a commitment to delivering exceptional clinical outcomes while contributing to research, education, and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex paediatric cardiac surgeries, including correction of congenital heart defects, open-heart procedures, valve repairs and replacements, arterial switch operations, Tetralogy of Fallot repair, and other advanced cardiac interventions.
  • Provide comprehensive pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care for paediatric cardiac surgery patients.
  • Manage critically ill patients in the Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) in collaboration with intensivists and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, review diagnostic investigations, and develop individualized surgical treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with paediatric cardiologists, cardiac anaesthesiologists, perfusionists, intensivists, radiologists, and nursing teams to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Participate in emergency cardiac surgery services and on-call rotations as required.
  • Monitor patient recovery through outpatient follow-up clinics and long-term postoperative care.
  • Counsel patients' families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical risks, expected outcomes, and long-term management.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive medical records in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, morbidity and mortality conferences, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to clinical research, publications, and continuing medical education activities.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior surgeons, residents, fellows, and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, patient safety standards, ethical guidelines, and evidence-based clinical practices.

Qualifications

  • Medical Degree (MBBS, MD, or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Completion of a recognized Residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
  • Fellowship in Paediatric Cardiac Surgery from a recognized institution.
  • Board Certification (American Board, FRCS, Arab Board, European Board, or equivalent).
  • Eligibility for consultant registration with the relevant Saudi healthcare regulatory authority.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5–10 years of post-fellowship experience as a Consultant Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon.
  • Extensive experience performing complex congenital and paediatric cardiac surgical procedures.
  • Proven track record of excellent surgical outcomes in high-volume tertiary care or academic medical centers.
  • Previous GCC experience is preferred but not mandatory.
