About the Department
Under the general supervision of the Public Works Transit System Administrator, safely operates a bus on assigned route schedule (fixed and paratransit curb-to-curb service); collects and accounts for fares; performs daily bus safety inspection (pre and post-trip); greets and provides direction and other information to customers; assists passengers on and off the bus; and performs other related work as required. May work various hours and days of the week including Saturdays, holidays, and split shifts. Other Qualifications
- Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. AZ Driver's license or ability or obtain upon hire. Commercial Driver's License (CDL), minimum of a Class "B”, including “P” Passenger endorsement, with medical certification or ability to obtain within three 90 days after the start of employment. City of Sierra Vista is permitted and licensed to provide CDL training and skills test and may provide additional resources for new applicants to obtain other necessary pre-requisites for obtaining a CDL Class B. Must be able to pass an Arizona department of Corrections background check before start date. Must be able to pass an Arizona Department of Transportation approved physical before start date Prefer experience driving commercial vehicles and CPR certification. Five (5) year driving history record required. An acceptable driving record shall have no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years; no more than three (3) moving violations in the most recent 5 year period; and no more than four (4) current driving penalty points. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position requires the employee to wear a uniform during working hours. The uniform shall be provided and maintained by the City. Performance of the essential duties of this position include the following physical demands and/or working conditions: Work is performed sometimes indoors but regularly outside in seasonal climate and weather conditions. Driving for prolonged period of time with limited rest breaks. City traffic conditions are encountered on a daily basis. Follows a schedule to leave and pick up passengers. Noise from traffic and two-way radio, slippery surfaces and dust are situations regularly encountered. Physical demands include driving, walking, standing, constant arm movements, pushing and securing wheelchair passengers, and sitting for long periods of time. Maintains required certifications and licenses as well as immediately notifies management of any incident that could influence license status and ability to meet license requirements. This position is considered safety sensitive and subject to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations.
