Palliative Medicine Clinic Coordinator - Medical Assistant
Role Overview
The Palliative Medicine Clinic is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Medical Assistant (MA) to provide clinical and administrative support in a busy ambulatory palliative care clinic practice.
This position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Palliative Medicine serves patients living with serious, life-limiting, or life-threatening illnesses.
Our team supports patients and families experiencing uncontrolled physical or emotional symptoms, navigating complex medical decisions, completing advance care planning documents, and discussing goals of care.
The MA is an essential liaison between patients, caregivers, and providers and helps create a welcoming, organized, and responsive clinic environment and experience.
A Day in the Life
• As a Medical Assistant in the Palliative Medicine Clinic, you will provide both clinical and administrative support to patients living with serious illness and to the providers who care for them. You will help create a welcoming, compassionate, and organized experience for patients and their caregivers.
• You will be a key point of contact for patients in clinic and by telephone. You will room and prepare patients for visits; obtain weight and vital signs; review medications; collect symptom information, including Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS) scores; and identify the patient’s priority concerns for the visit.
• You will assist with pre-visit planning for in-person and virtual appointments, medication reconciliation, advance care planning document review, and coordination of records needed for new palliative care consultations.
• You will use basic telephone triage skills to gather symptom information, prioritize patient needs, communicate concerns to providers, support medication refill workflows and prior authorizations, and complete proactive symptom or comfort follow-up calls as directed.
• You will help the clinic run smoothly by maintaining exam-room supplies, supporting accurate documentation in Cerner PowerChart, collaborating closely with the palliative care team, and ensuring patients and families receive timely, compassionate support throughout their care.
