Summary

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• Technical School Diploma Surgical technician
• Less than 1 year
• Ability to initiate, accept and adapt to constant change within a healthcare setting.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of medical and surgical supplies and sterile techniques.
• Time management and organizational skills.
• BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association
• CST - Certified Surgical Technologist - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Upon Hire
• Additional Qualifications
• (i) has successfully completed a surgical technologist program sponsored by an entity holding nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation and holds and maintains a surgical technologist certification from an accredited certification program. The department may promulgate regulations which identify nationally recognized accredited programs which meet the standards necessary to promote the public good and protect the health and safety of individuals in a health care facility; (ii) has successfully completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy or Air Force; or (iii) provides evidence that the individual maintains a surgical technologist certification from an accredited certification program or was employed to practice surgical technology by the health care facility on or before the effective date of this section,or was employed to practice surgical technology as the individual's primary function in another health care facility during any time of the 2 years before this effective date (12/28/2020) was required.
• Physical Demands Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
