Role overview

Manage offshore positioning and navigation surveys for drilling rigs, jack-up rigs, and marine barges.

Ensure accurate vessel positioning, safe rig moves, and compliance with project specifications, marine safety standards, and client requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveys for rigs, barges, and marine vessels; plan and execute rig moves, barge positioning, and navigation survey activities.
  • Operate and maintain DGPS/GNSS, gyrocompass, motion sensors, acoustic positioning systems, and other survey equipment.
  • Perform positioning checks, equipment calibration, and survey data quality control; support anchor handling, mooring, and jack-up rig positioning as required.
  • Coordinate with rig masters, marine crews, offshore installation managers, and client representatives; monitor vessel movements, positioning accuracy, and safety.
  • Prepare survey reports, positioning records, as-built documentation, and daily updates; follow offshore HSE procedures and marine survey standards.

Qualifications and experience

  • At least 5 years of relevant offshore survey experience, preferably 5–10+ years, with direct involvement in rig moves or barge positioning.
  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics, Marine Engineering, Survey Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Proven offshore oil and gas experience, including jack-up rig positioning, barge movements, and marine construction support.

  • Hands-on experience with DGPS/GNSS, gyrocompass, USBL/LBL acoustic positioning, and associated survey sensors.
  • Ability to work independently offshore, troubleshoot survey equipment, and coordinate with marine teams.

Software and certifications

  • Familiarity with EIVA NaviPac, Qinsy, or equivalent offshore survey and positioning software.
  • BOSIET/FOET and offshore medical fitness certifications are preferred; additional hydrographic survey qualifications are advantageous.
