Reporting to the Manager of Rehabilitation, the Occupational Therapist is expected to demonstrate clinical knowledge and understanding relevant to their practice area, aligning with their individual scope of practice.

This role requires an awareness of their responsibilities within the patient's care plan, along with a solid understanding of anatomy and physiology, evidence-based practice, and Occupational Therapy services across the lifespan.

The Occupational Therapist must also adhere to M42 and comply with DOH policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and interprets referrals, completing comprehensive evaluations to identify physiological, cognitive, psychological, and functional needs.
  • Develops, delivers, and adjusts individualized treatment plans using standardized and dynamic assessments across fine/gross motor skills, sensory processing, visual‑motor/perceptual skills, ADLs, and functional participation.
  • Monitors progress, modifies interventions, and recommends appropriate assistive technology or adaptive equipment to support functional independence.
  • Educates and collaborates with parents/caregivers, providing tailored home programs and ensuring understanding and consent throughout the therapy process.
  • Performs continuous risk assessments and maintains safety and best‑practice standards during all therapy sessions.
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation, billing, insurance submissions, and other administrative tasks in line with clinic policies.
  • Participates in clinical handovers, interdisciplinary teamwork, inventory management, and service‑related activities to support coordinated, patient‑centered care.
  • Applies specialist skills and qualifications in areas such as Sensory Integration, Cognitive Rehabilitation, Hand Therapy (including splinting), Seating, Alternate Access, or Neurorehabilitation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in occupational therapy in a large hospital. Preferably with background in Post Acute Rehabilitation
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, with a focus on continuous professional development.
